TeckYunn and MayFung's Wedding
Posted by lionel319 @ Sun 13 Dec, 09, 06:18PM under photography

Last Saturday was a though tiring, yet happy and enjoyable day for my buddy.

I have the honor to be chosen to covered the event.

To me, he was someone very special.

He is my boss,
   and my colleague.

He is my mentor,
   yet my friend.

He is my lunch buddy,
   and also my Comrade.

It was at this kinda time that all friends that we haven't been meeting up for quite some time to do some catching up.

Really happy to see that ddcat is still the same, and hasn't changed much although he's already the CEO of a company.

It was indeed a very huge crowd, seeing almost 15-20some hengtai (brothers) in 6 cars along the journey.

With the help from all the hengtai, we finally managed to win the bride.

I believe it was an exciting and enjoyable day for everyone. At least it was for me.

And I hereby congrats the bride and groom. Congrats, TeckYunn and MayFung. ^_^

Pet Photography
Posted by lionel319 @ Sat 15 Aug, 09, 09:51AM under photography

Do you have any tips for readers on how to take great photos of their cats?

First and foremost, lighting! Lighting is key for the perfect photo, and I highly recommend seeking natural light. Use a flash only if you need.

Second, relate to your pet on a personal level — get down on the floor and connect to their world. See what they see.

And third, have patience! Most of us don’t like having our picture taken, so you have to approach your cat in the same way. Blend playtime and photo-taking together, let them get used to your camera — it will make for memorable photos. Hope that helps!

Enjoy ^_^

Circular Polarizer
Posted by lionel319 @ Fri 12 Jun, 09, 10:16AM under photography

It's been months that my Circular Polarizer(CPL) has been sitting in my drawer collecting dust ever since I bought it.

I wasn't until recently that I notice that an impact and 'umphhhh' it creates in one of my friend's photo that I finally decided to dig it out from my drawer and decided to give it a try myself.

It took me a while to pick up how to actually use this thing.

Here's some Disadvantages that I've found out using a CPL:-

1. it instantly drop your shutter speed down by around 4 freaking stops.
2. thus, making snapping moving objects (monkeys etc) virtually impossible.
3. it takes some gut feeling to get to the desired result that you want.

Of course, there are the Advantages as well once you've got it right:-

1. It totally eliminates glare, which makes the picture kinda having a washed out feeling.
2. It totally eliminates reflection, which sometimes 'distract' the attention from the viewers.

-or-

You can totally make the reflection 'clearer' and more detail, if that is actually what you wanna achieve.

Here's a sample of one of the photos taken. (move mouse over to see changes)

Notice that without CPL (1st pix), the photo looks kinda washed out, glarry, and the river is very distracting with reflection of the sky.

With the CPL, the reflection is being eliminated, and no more washed out feel, which kinda makes the colors more vibrant and non-saturated.

Move your mouse over me

( ps:- photos are not photoshopped )

F-stop scale
Posted by lionel319 @ Sat 28 Mar, 09, 09:52AM under photography

I was looking around for a serious fast lens.

As a D40 user, there isn't much choice that i can choose from, given that only 2 of those that provide Auto-Focusing ........ there are only 2 .....

AF-S NIKKOR 35mm F/1.8

AF-S NIKKON 50mm F/1.4

The 35mm F1.8 is a new release, rumoured to be priced around the range of RM6xx, while the 50mm F1.4 is at a whooping RM2000++ (almost around the price of my camera body ....)

I was thinking of getting the better one, meaning, the faster lense, seeing that it is faster (F1.4 <==> F1.8), but i really dun know how much faster is 1.8 compared to 1.4 (year, i am a noob at all these technical stuff :p)

A little bit of search, and i reached here, and then only i realised ......

The F-stops scale are calculated based on the factor of 21/2, (1.414)

F/1 x 1.414 == F/1.414
F/1.414 x 1.414 == F/2
........... ... ..

... .... .............

................................................

WTF ?!?!?!?! only 1 stop, and the price difference is so much ?????? (yeah, i dun care about the rest of the technical pros  & cons. I'm only interested in the speed of the lens ..... )

Guess I'm gonna stick with the 35mm F/1.8 as my next targetted lens ....

RM6xx .... still quite reasonable :)
